Y Group Ashiya Car Showroom

Retail / Ashiya Hyogo / 2016 / Competition entry

What shape shows the cars best, seen from anywhere in the town?

Finding the shape of a showroom most easily seen from the town. We built a digital twin of the surroundings and calculated the visibility of the cars on display from every point in the town.

SPACE

COMPUTATION

The volume of the showroom is built by moving the floors that carry the cars. Showroom area 320 sqm, second floor at +4.0 m, third floor at +11.0 m.
From viewpoints set along the streets, rays are cast in every direction to count where the cars on display can be seen from.
Visibility as a driver sees it. The building is turned while the score is taken for east, west, south and north in turn (305 viewpoints).
Visibility as a pedestrian sees it. The same calculation, with the viewpoints increased to 10,000.
