A house at one and a half, where the everyday and the exceptional meet. The luxury of choosing not to own a second home.

With their children grown, the owners wanted a base for the years ahead. At first they were looking to buy a weekend house — a second house. Weighing the travel time and the burden of keeping two places, they arrived at a different answer: renovate the first house, the one they had lived in for years, as if it were a hotel.

Not a first house that is merely a container for daily life, and not a second house given over to the exceptional. A third way — 1.5 — where the conveniences of the city remain close at hand, and opening the front door lets a quieter kind of time begin.
